Britney Spears has ordered half a dozen sparkly pasties and panties sets from goodgalsinc.com for $168. They cost more because Spears had each pair customized with a “B” on one and “S” on the other. So she can tell left from right?
Clarence Clemons has kept a secret that Robert De Niro told him 25 years ago — until now. When the E Street Band horn player coached the actor on the sax for his role in “New York, New York,” De Niro confessed that he got his famous “Taxi Driver” catch phrase from Clemons’ bandmate — Bruce Springsteen. De Niro “had been to one of our concerts, and the audience was yelling out ‘Bruuuuuuuce!'” Clemons recalled at the Book Expo Thursday. “In those days, Bruce would stop onstage and say, ‘You talkin’ to me?’ [De Niro] was kind of channeling him.” Clemons has more gems in his memoir, “Big Man,” out in the fall.
Rep. Carolyn Maloney left little doubt she’s coming after Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand next year.
Appearing at a Thursday night fund-raiser at the Manhattan home of folk legend Peter Yarrow, Maloney riffed on Yarrow’s classic “If I Had a Hammer,” saying that when she heard Gov. Paterson’s “doozie” appointment of Gillibrand to Hillary Clinton’s seat, “I wished I had a hammer.” Maloney, who handed out campaign buttons, promised “an important announcement very soon.”
Congrats to Jets owner Robert Woody Johnson and Suzanne Ircha who, after having two beautiful children together, will finally make it official on Thursday. Sons Jack, eight months, and Robert Wood Johnson V, 3, are due to be there when their parents get married at the Brick Presbyterian Church on Park Ave. There’ll be a reception afterward at the Four Seasons’ Pool Room. Woody, 62, who has three daughters from his marriage to Sale Johnson, will get a bachelor party the night before at the Waverly Inn. Bob Pittman and John Loeffler are among those expected. Hairstyling king Frederick Fekkai may have to miss it. He just underwent surgery after breaking his foot playing soccer in Millbrook.
“Real Housewife of New York City” Kelly Bensimon has made a new frenemy. Recently, she hit it off with “Real Housewife of Atlanta” NeNe Leakes, even texting NeNe an invitation to her Hamptons home last weekend. But NeNe has been telling friends when she asked for directions, Kelly didn’t reply. NeNe shouldn’t feel bad. Word is Alex McCord was the only NYC “Housewife” invited to the party.
Don’t flip out that Bank of America bought a luxe $700,000 Yankee Stadium suite just after getting $44 billion in TARP cash. The suite deal includes BofA Yankees credit cards and ATMs in the stadium, bank spokesman Joe Goode tells us. While bank execs were “disappointed” they couldn’t sign a 20-year pact with the team, the Yankees did extend BofA’s contract for one more year. Goode says such deals with sports teams generate $10 in revenue for every $1 invested. He did admit, however, that: “We also sponsor the Boston Red Sox.”
Isabella Rossellini, Elvis Costello, Jim Jarmusch, Steve Buscemi, Aidan Quinn and Lizzie Bracco came to see Roberto Benigni rhapsodize about Dante’s “Divine Comedy” at the Hammerstein Ballroom on Saturday. Jarmusch, who cast the Oscar-winner in “Down By Law,” “Coffee and Cigarettes” and “Night on Earth,” told us, “Americans mostly know him as a clown, but he’s incredibly erudite about art and literature.” Benigni himself was modest about his mastery of The Supreme Poet. “It is as if Jim Carrey would come to Rome talking about Walt Whitman,” Benigni told the packed house.
The “Life is Beautiful” director spent almost as much time feasting on Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s “jailbait affair” with 18-year-old model Noemi Letizia. “This underage p—-, it’s very dangerous,” said Benigni. “We picture Berlusconi at the 18th birthday party of the barely legal girl, just waiting in the wings for her to blow out her birthday candles…counting down the candles until finally, ‘Eighteen!!!’ You remember with Monica Lewinsky, President Clinton was asked, ‘Did you have sex with that woman?’ He said, ‘I did not have sex with that woman!’
In Italy, it is the opposite. Berlusconi says, “I had sex with that woman” and everybody says, ‘You did not!’ He says, ‘Yes, I did!’ He’s 73 years old. I never voted for him but now I think I will. It is a good image for Italians, no?”
Music heirs Julian Lennon and Kymani Marley hit it off in Monaco at the Prince Albert Foundation gala produced by Gina de Franco. Julian paid $34,000 for Kymani’s guitar… Star class action lawyer Chris Seeger is now repping the rockers of Last Exit. … O.A.R. singer Marc Roberge and bassist Benj Gershman blew the minds of three students on Friday. The bandmates surprised Dianna Baez, Saba Isidore and Faeez Sharwah by showing up at their schools to give each a $5,000 check for their essays on their favorite teachers…. Jose Pablo Rodriguez, the impostor who’s been posing as the son of late drug lord Pablo Escobar, laid his rap on tattooed H2Ocean models at Touch.
The Rubin Museum theater on W. 17th St. is a far cry from “American Idol’s” giant theater, where Steve Martin just played a song from his bluegrass album “The Crow.” But that’s why on Thursday the comedian and banjo virtuoso wanted to play the little 137-seat jewelbox, a favorite of Elvis Costello and Rosanne Cash for acoustic shows. Noting the museum’s sculpture of the Dalai Lama and other rare Eastern artifacts, Martin said, “I know a lot about Himalayan art. I know where it’s from.”
